Freezing? Yes!

Filed Under Breastfeeding, Family, Love, School, house | 3 Comments

Guess who got a freezer? I DID! I was going to go buy one, and I saw an ad for one five times the size of the one I could buy brand new! So my uncle Joe and his friend who are visiting from Wisconsin, and my grandma and I went and picked it up today! It’s in good condition. Works just fine! Needs a good scrubbing, and need to buy screws to put the hinges back on… but for five times the freezer space?! Heck yes! I’m so freaking excited.

It is now my ambition to fill the entire thing up with milk!

Ha! Dan would kill me if I filled the entire thing with milk. That would be a LOT of milk. So I’ll probably just fill SOME of it up with milk. I have to finish filling up all of the medela bottles for Danny’s back up supply (I keep finding more floating around, just when i thought I had the last of them!)

Dan’s been working on a few things on the house. There’s some stuff that has to be taken care of before we can close on it and Dan agreed with the owners to help with those things. So, he spent his last day off working on that. He’s going to spend his next day or two off on it too. Hopefully it all goes good, and gets fixed up quickly!

Hopefully everything goes well. We’re 99% sure that the house is ours, but still… You never know what could happen. I just hope it all goes well and we DO get it. Otherwise we’re up the creek without a paddle!

School started. Kind of. School dosen’t really start until August 24th, but the Math course has already been posted so I started working ahead. It’s all stuff I went over and already did when I was trying to teach myself algebra… But unfortunately, I was a dumbass and threw the papers away. Ugh. I wish I would have saved them! Now I have to do them again. I’m trying to work ahead. That way I have less to stress about later!

Anyways… I’m exhausted. So I’m going to go to bed now! I want to get some more math done tomorrow before Rex comes over!

Milk, milk, milk galore.

There was 64 bottles in that freezer drawer!

There was 64 bottles in that freezer drawer!

Yeah… Usually after I fill up 15 bottles, I transfer the 15 bottles into a grocery sack, labelled and tagged with the date, and I put it in the downstairs deep freezer… But I was just being lazy and didn’t transfer it as often as I should have and it accumulated pretty quickly. Within a couple days!

I should be pumping a lot more than I am, but it’s difficult here. I don’t have my own space. My usage of the freezer is limited (although we’re getting one of our own soon!) and I have to put all my pumping stuff away after I use it. I can’t just keeo it out in a little pumping station area like I did when I had my own place.

Once we move into this new house, it will be VERY nice! It will make EVERYTHING so much easier!

Anyways, just thought I’d share my picture! :P

My Poor Tongue

Filed Under Health, photos | Leave a Comment

I had the last of my cavities filled on Friday. Like I said before, I needed to get all of my dental work done before the end of July otherwise I have to pay the deductibles and whatever my insurance dosen’t cover. But before the end of July, medicaid will cover what my insurance dosen’t. And considering if they didn’t I simply couldn’t get the work done… I figured it was a good idea.

So I had my last dental appointment Friday. They did my fillings and everything went good. The only problem, is that I choked and and the drill slipped and hit my tongue. It didnt hurt much at first… but then by the next morning it really hurt. Then by yesterday morning it was to the point I didn’t want to talk or eat.

I seriously feel like crying everytime I move my tongue or try to eat. I haven’t eaten much of anything because of it. It sucks.

Ouchie.

No fun.

Becky left yesterday. I was so sad. :(

It was nice seeing her and getting to introduce her to her newest nephew. I was happy to do that. It was kind of crazy while she was here, but thankfully less drama than there was when she visited last time.

Milky-Goodness!

So, on the 21st, I took a coleman cooler out to Fred’s (he owns a smokehouse here and is friends with my grandpa) and got everything all ready to be shipped via fedex for Courtney and Lexi! I managed to fit twenty 6 oz bags of milk into the cooler before I mailed it off! It was sent out at 9am on Wednesday and and she got it at 10am (my time) the next morning! It was only en route for 25 hours! And it all arrived frozen, with the exception of one bag that was a little slushy!

And even better, she gave some milk to Lexi and Lexi loved it! Courtney said she lit up and downed the whole thing in less than five minutes! Yay for booby milk! I’m so excited and I’m happy that she liked it! I got all warm and fuzzy feeling when I read the email from Courtney about it!

So, now I need to make my milk-babies page!

I’m going to be donating to a set of twins soon too! Bella and Lilah! I’m excited! This is all VERY exciting!

My crazy life…

Filed Under Breastfeeding, Danny, friends, house | 3 Comments

Wow. So, my life has been completely insane and hectic lately!

First, I’ve been cleaning, organizing and sorting things like a madwoman. You have no idea how crazy I’ve been getting with the cleaning, but it’s totally necessary. We have some good news!

They accepted the offer on the house! So, we’ll have the keys in about a month! I’m so excited. It’s going to be our first home! It’s freaking awesome! So, because of that, I’ve decided to slowly work on downsizing, cleaning, sorting and organizing things. Especially Maddi’s toys. The kid has WAY too many toys! She seriously has enough toys to cover the entire floor of our living room. But that’s because she’s the first grandchild on my side, and Dan’s side… She gets spoiled!

So, I’m downsizing. I sorted through some old clothes of Maddi’s and even some of Danny’s! Some get sold on ebay. Some are put in a box for a memory quilt. Some are donated the church’s clothing bank.

So, I got my MotherLover “More Milk Plus.” The stuff tastes terrible but it works! I was super impressed with it! It’s given me a noticeable difference in my milk production! I’m excited! I’ve been storing a lot. I’m going to finish filling up all the 80 ml bottles I have for Danny’s backup supply and then I’m going to keep freezing more for donation.

I nursed my friend’s baby today. She went on a short walk and baby got hungry and mama gave me the okay, so I nursed her. From everything I’ve read and researched, there’s nothing wrong with cross-nursing.

Anyways, Danny is crying and I need to get in bed! I have an early dentist appointment tomorrow!

Baby Danny’s Poor Little Eye…

Filed Under Danny, Health | 5 Comments

His left eye keeps gunking up. I took him to the doctor and they didn’t really do or say much of anything. Just to keep wiping it off with a warm cloth.

But I’ve been spraying breast milk in his eye every time I feed him. When I do that, it clears up for a couple hours… Which is a LOT more than I can say for the warm cloth method!!!

Poor kid has a cold, and a gunky eye. A baby can’t get a break around here, can he?

The Life & Times of the Mommy Milk Machine

So my second version of the buckle mei-tai turned out amazing and I got an order for one! I’m so excited about it! I ordered the fabric, and it came in today! I cut out all the peices and assembled the nylon webbing in the straps, so tomorrow, I can just cut right to the chase and start assembling and sewing! I’m very excited! I have enough materials to make a total of six (one of which is already ordered). I’ve been thinking of renting a booth at the Wednesday market. It’s only $10 to rent a booth and tons of people go down there! I could get some orders that way!

The woman at the WIC office seemed particularly impressed with the carriers. She liked the design, but I think she liked the fact that I was carrying him close to me ever better. She said she sees a lot of parents who just lug the baby around in the car seat… Even if the baby is crying and upset and dosen’t seem to like it. She seemed genuinely upset by those types of parents, and I would be too. She offered to put up a flyer for my baby carriers, so I got one up there too! She seemed really impressed with my breastfeeding knowledge as well.

A girl I knew in high school had a baby three weeks ago, and she was formula feeding her for almost two because the baby wouldn’t latch. She said she wanted to breastfeed, but she couldn’t get her to latch. So, I invited her over and had her show me how she was doing it, and I showed her a different way and guess what? Baby girl latched right on! She came off a lot, but she did latch! She probably only came off a lot because she’s used to the bottle by now. You should have seen her though… She looked so happy and proud of herself that she was able to nurse her baby! And then her grandma called and when she told her grandma the good news, her grandma started SCREAMING. I could hear her all the way across the room through the phone! She was telling my friend that she’d “kill the baby” by trying to nurse her and that it was my friend’s fault that she wasn’t bonding with the baby because she didn’t want to be “too attached” when it died. She had my friend in tears! So, I quickly saw that the second half of the problem was a lack of support. Her entire family was beating her up over it! Degrading her and manipulating her on what they thought were “good reasons.” That “good reason” to formula feed, being that the baby lost weight from when she was first born… Granny needs to brush up on her human biology because it’s NORMAL for babies to lose weight early on! I was so enraged. The woman needs her tongue stapled to the roof of her mouth so that she dosen’t tear anyone else down or put her “opinion” (if you can call her blatent degradation and condemnation an opinion) to herself.

On a happier, breastfeeding related note, I’m due to send out my first shipment of milk since I had Danny! I have enough in the freezer for a couple shipments! I ended up taking all of my milk to my grandma’s house to store in her freezer until I get my own so that Curt has his room in his freezer. My grandparents didn’t seem to mind so long as it was temporary. We took all the bags out of the freezer and put them in a laundry basket… and the entire basket was full of bags of milk! 8 grocery bags filled with milk! That basket had to weigh more than Maddi! At least forty pounds! Six of the bags are Danny’s backup supply, but still, that’s a LOT of milk!!

Pretty soon, I’m going to add a page on my blog dedicated to my milk babies! That should be a cute little page! I’m excited! I feel so good about doing this! It really does make all the difference for these little babies!!!

Meanwhile, my supply is increasing, little by little. I’m going to be trying this herbal stuff that’s supposed to work even better! It’s worth a shot! I don’t mind though, because the more I make, the better! I don’t mind it at all. I WANT to make as much as I can, so that I can help as much as I can!

I babysat my nephew, Rex, overnight on the Saturday night. That was interesting! He’s three weeks older than Maddi and he talks SOOO much! It’s insane! Maddi hardly says anything, and Rex says everything! Maybe he stole her talking ability, so his was doubled up, which is why he’s so good at it! Ha ha ha. They had fun playing together, and he was pretty good. Didn’t have any issues at all! But it did make me realize very quickly that I do NOT want any more babies for a long time! Three diapers in a row… Three cars eats in a row… Three kids crying in a row… Too much to have to deal with every day! It’s okay for a day and when I can return the third kid, but I couldn’t do it every day!

Speaking of car seats, Maddi got a new one. I went to buckle her in the other day and the side of the seat felt funny, so I looked underneath the cover and when I did, a foot long piece of Styrofoam was broken off of the seat! So, I went in to the fire station, they checked it, and sure enough it had to be replaced. I did all the paperwork and they installed the car seat while the fire marshall played tag with Maddi in the parking lot. She loved that! They even took her inside the station to weigh her (she weighs 25lbs, by the way). She just thought that everything was so cool looking!

And Danny has been growing like a weed! You blink, and he grows before you can open your eyes again! It’s crazy! He’s still a pretty good baby! He has issues with gas bubbles sometimes (like this afternoon) but he’s not too terribly hard to console. He’s been smiling a lot! Which I absolutely LOVE! He’s so funny… Especially his hair. This little scout has the strangest hair! Brown on the ends, blond at the roots, and the front goes off to the side like Hitler’s and the back sticks straight up in a spider-money mohawk looking thing… It’s so strange! He had a tummy ache this evening, so we took a bath and as soon as we got in the tub, he stopped crying. I nursed him for less than a minute and he fell asleep, just half-floating in the water. I was holding him up of course, but he was just LOVING it!

Anyways, it’s late and I am EXHAUSTED!

Breastmilk Blues! Thank Goodness for friends!

Phew!

So, as if my luck couldn’t get any worse after the freezer issue… My pump broke! It was kind of my fault though. I left the cord at Anita’s house, and I thought that this other cord would work with it, but it didn’t and it just made the whole thing stop turning on. I have no clue what happened.

So, I had to dig out my OLD pump, which, although it’s a great pump, it’s really rough on me and it hurts! I get a sharp pain every time it sucks my nipple in. It’s terrible. I just don’t like it very much. But for now, it’s what I’m using.

Dan’s dad is going to try to fix the pump. We’ll see how it goes. Hopefully he can. It’d be nice. If not, we bought another one (but haven’t opened it. We won’t open it until tomorrow when we know if the other one can be fixed or not, that way if it can, we can return it for a refund.) I really hope it’s fixable, but I get the feeling it’s not. :(

The freezer issues are working themselves out, thanks to some amazing friends who pitched in to help me with it. I’m so glad I have friends like that.

I can’t wait to start donating! I’m very excited. It’s just a matter of time, and making arrangements and such! After this blog, I’m going to run out to the car and grab my notebook that has my food log, as well as my STD blood work papers. I need to scan them into the computer so I can pass them along to the parents I’ll be donating to.

I went to my brother-in-law’s wedding reception today. I wasn’t too terribly excited. I mean, I’m glad they got married, but if you read my previous posts about his girlfriend (I might not have specifically mentioned it was her) you can see why I might feel awkward. I don’t know. I still resent her for what she did.

I’m also working on getting certified as a doula! I’m excited about it! It’s a lot of work and the process is kind of confusing, but I can handle it! It will be good for me to get that kind of experience and certification under my belt!
